Summer Salmon Fishing in the Waters of Green Bay

Looking for a place to catch monster fish? King Salmon in the 20lb. class are easily accessible in Green Bay waters. These "screamers" as they are commonly called by locals can take out hundreds of feet of line on their initial hit. You can throw in some incidental brown and rainbow trout for added fun.

Spool your reels with as much line as they can hold. Pros and charter boat captains are going to Power Pro line. The 30lb test has an equivalent of 8lb line diameter so you can get 1000 feet or more on a typical line counter reel.

Green Bay, surrounded by Northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, has numerous ports with lots of boat launch facilities for access to this exciting summer fishery.

Mid June into July Green Island, Chambers Island, Washington Island, the Whales Back Shoal and many places in between hold great concentrations of these kings. Fish can also be found along the deep water shorelines surrounding this body of water. In late August and September you can also find these fish moving toward and staging near their spawning rivers along the western shore of the bay.

In midsummer look for thermal cline, water temps in the mid to upper 50 degrees are good. If you have a temperature gauge or temperature and trolling speed at the cannon ball it can be a great help. If you don't have temperature just watch your fish finder. Look for the big hooks or blobs of bait fish with hooks around them. Put your tackle into or just above these concentrations.

There is an endless supply of lures to use for this type of fishing. Typically Pro King, Diamond King, or Moonshine spoons in bright colors with silver backs or diamond reflective patterns are good. E-chip Dodger or Spin Doctor and Howie Fly are also used with many different manufactures in many styles and colors. Trolling speeds are across the board for this type of fishing with GPS speeds of 1.7 to 3 mph with 2 mph being most common.

All methods of deep water trolling can be employed such as downriggers and Dipsey Divers. Dipseys can be used off of wire lines or PowerPro rods. Another method, which is relatively new, is the use of lead core and copper lines to get your lures down. Lead core is color coded 10 yards per color and each color drops your lure about 5 feet down. Three colors will get you about 15 feet deep, five colors about 25 feet down and so on. Copper is typically run in 100, 200 or 300 feet per reel. Both these lines are generally backed with PowerPro and tipped with floral carbon leaders. One hundred feet of copper drops your lure about 20 feet, 200 about 40 feet and 300 feet of copper will get you down about 60 feet. If you are new to using copper lines, get advice from a dealer or someone who has used it. It is not easy to deal with.

For information on fishing in a particular location, check out the area sport shops, talk to local fishermen, listen to the marine radio or search the internet for local fishing reports. You can find a lot of info on the internet at http://profishingblog.com/fishing-license/

Alaska Salmon Fishing Trip ? Several Details To Know About Fishing Licenses

Some people are looking for ways to unwind. While others are having a great time visiting malls or game centers, some would prefer to go visit the great outdoors and try a unique activity. Fortunately, a lot of different sites are now promoting their services to meet this need of consumers. A good example of this is Alaska salmon fishing trip.

Alaska is popular when it comes to fishing even before unique charter boats have been developed. This tradition of fishing is carried over throughout the years and has been attracting people to visit their area for fishing. In fact, you'll find a lot of lodges that extend Alaska salmon fishing trip services to their guests.

However, you have to know that you can't just land in Alaska and cast your rod to fish. Several documents like permits should be processed in order to fish. In addition, it's also important for people to have stamps to fishing.

But even before you start fishing, you must understand that these permits may be priced differently depending on various details. One of the differences is in terms of the people who'll obtain the license. Of course, fishing in Alaska is open for their residents and non-residents but both guests would need permit. The residents can get an annual permit for a very affordable price. The guests on the other hand can get licenses depending on how long they plan to fish within the state. For instance, they can get permit for a day or up to a year depending on how many times they will visit the area.

Getting Alaska salmon fishing trip permit may also be different depending on the age of the fisher. Adults must get the actual license to fish but the younger ones may not really get a license. They will have other requirements so they can fish in the state.

In addition to the actual license, King Salmon fishing stamps must also be obtained and use it for this activity. Just like the license, the prices of stamps would vary depending on the number of fishing days the guests would like to have.

These documents are very vital in order to allow everyone to fish in Alaska. The good news about this is the license can be purchased online so it will be a hassle free purchase. But the better news is the Alaska salmon fishing trip service providers or lodge staff can already help the guests obtain their permits and staff. This is an additional service that will be perfect for guests who are on the lookout for a real hassle-free fishing activity in the area.

Without a doubt, an Alaska salmon fishing trip is something helpful if you really want to unwind. However, you have to be ready with the right documents to ensure you'll enjoy the activity. Don't let simple documents like permit to prevent you from fishing and enjoying your activity. Look for lodging service that will help you process them in no time for your convenience.

Let us have a look at salmon fishing in fresh water, which for many fishermen is the ultimate sports fishing. In most areas salmon fishing in fresh water is strictly regulated. Always remember to check the regulations that apply in the river which is the target for your fishing trip. What time of year it is permitted to fish in rivers and what time of year salmon fishing is at its best, depends a lot on where in the world you are salmon fishing.

The water level in a river determines how good a salmon fishing you will experience, and where in the river salmon are located. At high water there is a lot of fresh salmon going up the river. At the same time salmon that is already there, swims further up streams. Such conditions will usually give you the opportunity to experience an excellent salmon fishing. You will often find that the salmon seeks into the calm parts of the river at high water levels. Booth at low water and high water temperatures, the salmon will often stay in places where there are relatively strong currents. Under such conditions, salmon fishing is difficult and requires much patience. At low water and clear weather, you should restrict salmon fishing to the time around sunrise and sunset. If possible you should also try salmon fishing at night in these conditions.

The salmon is an exceptionally strong fish that will provide you with a real struggle once you have gotten it hooked. When the salmon are fighting you and your fishing tackle, you should be aware all the time. Always keep your fishing line tight, so that the hook does not come loose in the salmon's mouth. Also remember to set the crank system on your fishing reel according to conditions and according to what catches you are currently fishing. There are several types of sport fishing to choose from when you are going salmon fishing. The most common are fly fishing, bait fishing as well as fishing with spinners and lures.

Bait fishing for salmon has for a long time been a popular method among many fishermen. Worms are the most common bait for salmon fishing in rivers. Please note that in several rivers and lakes it is now illegal to practice bait fishing. If you release a big worm in the flowing water it will sink slowly and float almost weightless following the current. As a bait fisherman, it is important to imitate this natural situation. Try to lead the bait downstream with such natural movements as possible.

When fishing in rivers where it still remains permitted, I will definitely recommend you to try out bait fishing. It is an exciting salmon fishing that does not require any expensive fishing tackle.

Salmon Give Canada-Bound Fishermen Run for Their Money

Despite low salmon numbers in many North American fishing areas, Canadian salmon fishing showed surprisingly good numbers and a strong finish to a healthy fishing season.

Due to poor spawning returns in 2008, many fishing areas in the northwestern United States launched the 2009 fishing season with low limits and strict regulations. Washington, for example, announced a late start to the season while Oregon and California closed salmon fishing in some areas altogether. Some fishermen wondered if great salmon fishing was a thing of the past. British Columbia, though, did not have to lower salmon limits and had a surprisingly strong season of King salmon fishing.

The fishing rebound in areas of British Columbia was aided by returns of larger Kings and high volumes of Silver salmon. Many visiting fishermen returned home with tubs of fish. Fishing charter owner Sam Vandervalk noted that in Ucluelet, where he owns and operates Salmon Eye Charters, there were so many Silvers that a fisherman could catch and release 200-300 fish a day.

The success of the 2009 fishing season helped keep lodge and charter owners from feeling the full effects of the recession. Vandervalk reported, “Like everyone else, I was concerned with how the economy would impact business this year, but the salmon fishing in Ucluelet was so good that we were 20% busier than last year. Despite the down-economy, good fishing kept us virtually one hundred percent full throughout the season.”

While Fisheries and Oceans Canada forecasted a better salmon fishing year than 2008, 2009 surpassed their predictions. Though for many this was unexpected, the areas of Canada that brought in these large Kings are known for consistently productive fishing. “We weren’t surprised by the good year. We have a lot of good years. In fact, an old fishing guide from Sitka, Alaska recommended that his friends come fish Ucluelet, Canada because of how consistent it is,” commented Vandervalk.

Forecasts for 2010 are calling for another year of good salmon returns, and many charters have already started booking for next season.

Sound Salmon Fishing

No doubt, Alaska is one of the most popular places where fishermen can expect to catch a record number of salmon fish. Cool water of rivers, lakes and oceans in the western part of the state are well known for the availability of high quality salmon in large quantities.

In general, you'll find salmon in almost all regions of Alaska. However, if you are looking for large salmon there are several areas known for it. Below I will give you a list of rivers and the type of salmon you'll find in each of them.

Kenai Peninsula and River One of the most well-known hot spots for salmon fishing in Alaska, Kenai Peninsula and the River. Here you can find various kinds of fishes such as Chinook salmon, Chinook, silver and sockeye salmon or red salmon. Weight salmon depends on the variety, but generally adult fish salmon weigh from 25 to 90 pounds.

Golsovia river, on the shore of the Bering Sea, is another area in Alaska, which is world famous for the availability of different types of salmon. Interestingly, except for salmon, you will also find Artic Char fish in this region. Typical varieties of salmon fishes seattle found in this area, chum, pink, silver and king salmon. If you are looking forward to fishing for salmon in this area, it is best to do so in the period from June to August, because this is a time when most visitors to reach their fishing limit, and then, in order to continue their fishing, implementation, use of catch and release program.

Sitka-This is another area in Alaska, known for its great opportunities for fishing. There are, however, a limit on the number of fish can be caught. For example, you can not catch more than one salmon per day, and not more than three in one year. As for silver or Coho salmon is concerned, you can not catch more than six Cohos a day, but, fortunately, there is no annual limit. In addition to the hot place for fishing, Sitka is also one of the largest cities in Alaska, so if you're going to make salmon fishing there, he will make an ideal base point for your family.

Yentna River This is another popular destination for lovers of salmon. Although the river itself has a lot of salmon living in its waters, you're not limited to the river alone! This river has many tributaries, which are equally rich in fishing opportunities. Depending on your fishing license, you can make salmon fishing or using a fishing vessel, or grid, or even from shore. King, silver, sockeye, chum and pink, some of the varieties of salmon, you'll probably see in this river. Fly-fishing is often used method to catch fish from this river.

In general, I can say that Alaska will give you a rich experience as regards salmon fishing. The interesting thing about fishing for salmon in Alaska, that many areas remained virtually untouched and undeveloped, which makes it an attractive place for fishing adventures. The best way to visit Alaska during the months of July and August, when the weather is relatively warm and there is not enough sunlight for long hours of fishing pleasure.
